I was backing up out of a wash and the reverse popped out of gear
and made a loud noise . Now the hi-low shifter is stuck in the liw
position I was using it in
And all the gears when I try put in any gear sounds like gears are all
turning and they dont engage in any gear .

It once in while will stick in gear and i would open cap next shifter
and move the large gear to put shifter in nuetral

But this is first time its done this. I have had reverse slip out if gear
many times but was never problem !

I have had my MF202 get stuck between gears and the hi / lo shifter can't be moved. I just remove the fill cover and stick a lon prybar down there and pry the big gear forward and that releases everything. I have since learned not to be in a hurry shifting it. If it doesn't want to go into first or reverse, I will put it into neutral and double clutch it. That normally solves the problem.

I did have one peculiar thing happen about a year ago. I went out in the morning to start the tractor and use it. Iput it in neutral, stepped on the clutch and started it. I let up on the clutch (still in neutral) and heard a big clunk like metal to metal.

Then the engine died. I could shift the gear shift lever so that was not jammed. I pushed in the clutch and started it again still in neutral. It ran fine as long as the clutch was in. If I let out the clutch it immediately died. Tried it again a little later, same thing. I let it sit a few days while trying to figure what was wrong with it. Went out once more and tried it again. PROBLEM WAS GONE ! Still don't know what it was but I do baby that transmission and the tractor is fine.

I looked over some information from "Big Dean" and this sounds like what you are dealing with.

Thankyou Very Much brooktre !
I will look into that !
This tractor has been in the family since the 70s and is like part of the
family .
Got a plow blade on front and a platform setup off the back where a
big ditch digger used to mount to .
It just does everything . From landscaping to trimming trees off platform.
Again Thankyou For The Reply !

Thankyou For The Info Caryc !
I For long time have had where I sometimes dont think about it and it
will stick in a gear . That is when I open inspection cap and large
screwdriver and move the big gear while moving shift lever and it will
go right back into nuetral .
I also had a big metal clunk when this happened
I have been having the reverse slip out of gear a lot after it gets well
warmed up from using .
I would just hold it in reverse until it is backing up then it stays !
Im thinking maybe a change of gear oil might be in store
The gears act up it seems usually when been hot using a while .

To stop the sticking in gear i try to stay in habit of pushing down on
the shifter when shifting. It helps keep it in sync where pulling a bit
while shifting seems to make it stick

But this time i was back blading with plow blade in reverse in low
range pulling dirt out of a slight ditch !
I didnt hold the reverse in as i should have. It was 2 hours into
clearing a wash and was hot .
It was backing for few feet , then popped out of gear , at same time
made that metal clunking . It never stalled or affected running
I could hear the gears in there turning but would not engage in any
gear . I shut it off with shifter in neutral , but hi-low range shifter is
froze in low range. No matter what you do with clutch. And can still
hear gears turning. I thought like getting stuck in gear maybe similiar
problem with hi low shifter !
But being on other side of shifter from hole in top cant see the side
with range shifter .
Thankyou . I havent messed with it since day before .
Ill have to see if can see something happening .

Maybe (hopefully) it will fix itself like mine did. When it happened to me, I was thinking that maybe there is some foreign object in the trans that somehow got itself jammed up in there and just happened to fall out by itself. Or maybe it was a tooth off of a gear. But, my trans doesn't make any strange noises.

I'll have to remember to push down when I shift it, thank you.
