This is my first tractor and all that I could afford at the time. I would like to install a FEL and there are a number of used units for sale, but how do I know what is compatible with my tractor. I have gone online and can't find anything helpful. I have found a couple of aftermarket suppliers for new units, but I cannot afford, nor justify $9K-$10K for an attachment to a $5k tractor. If I could figure out how to determine what works and what doesn't, it would make a product search so much easier.

Are you wanting to sell the loader? If so, could you send a pic?

I am N.E. of Dallas and have a Ford 703 loader I'll sell for $600. If you research "Ford 703 loader" you will note that it fit's early years of Ford and MF tractors. It come's with pump that can attach to pto or front engine pulley or it can hook to tractor pump. Each tractor requires different attachment brackets and it's common to fabricate brackets if they can't be found at dealer. It come's with the original 116 page parts book.

I was looking on Craigslist for my area, but nothing there. I hadn't thought of the Salvage Yard until it was mentioned earlier. Actually, I would not have even thought of it, as I didn't know they existed for tractors. I will definitely give that a run.

I do appreciate all the information. I have put out a couple of requests about 236 loaders that are posted, but so far have not received a reply from any of the three.

I forgot to add... I am located in East Texas, just outside of Tyler. If anyone knows of a good source for salvaged units, I would appreciate hearing back.

I am finding that what you said is correct. I have found a number of 'Good Deals' on used loaders, but the mounting brackets won't work. I found a couple that said that they would work, but I am trying to do some research for confirmation to ensure that the comment made is accurate and not just for the purpose of making a sale.

If you do find a loader, I have a two spool valve that would mount on the top of your trans. Then you would not have to have a front mount pump. There is a cover held down with two bolts. It has a supply tube with orings on it that delivers the pump oil to the three point. This valve would mount there instead.

I put a MF246 loader on my MF175, I think these fit many different MF tractors, still have the loader but sold the tractor & didnt take the quick attach mount that goes under the belly off. A 246 should fit your tractor, belly mounts for different sizes can be purchased separately.

Many folks on this site know of good MF salvage yards and repair shops, if you provide your location may be able to give some resources. I know a few in MD and PA areas of US. Getting a local solution a money and time saver

165's are fantastic tractors. I believe a Massey 90 loader will fit as well as a Davis 101/102. A good way to find loaders that will fit is to look at classified ads online - look at the ads with loaders and see what loaders are on them. This isn't a fool proof way to know if a loader will fit but you know that someone got that loader to fit a 165. I would start with tractor house but any website that lists a bunch of 165's would work. Depending on what's in your area you may get lucky and find a plug and play or have to do some fab work and figure out the hydraulics. Most folks run a front mounted pump that runs off the crankshaft.
Good luck.

Look for a Massey model 236 loader. Make sure the mounting brackets are with it. It bolts right on. Sometimes you can find a good used one. If it is an older model it will have a bucket that uses pins to attach it which is a pain. You can get a quick tac from palletforks.com and upgrade the loader to accept any skid steer attachment. The Titan adapter works great and is quality made. Just cut the ears off the bucket and weld them to the quick tach adapter. Then weld the plate to the bucket.

Unless you get lucky and find one with all the mounts and hardware off another 165 you will have to do some measuring and checking for each you find. If you find the brand and model of one that looks like it might fit sometimes you can search the web and see if the manufacturer made mounts for that loader to go on your tractor. Then given the vintage of your tractor and the loader the mounts likely will not be available from the manufacturer, or the manufacturer is no longer around, so you will have to build your own mounts. Installing used loaders on old tractors is common but it usually involves time, fabrication, and money. Not trying to be pessimistic and discourage you, just trying to give you a real idea of what you are up against.

It may help if you give an idea of where you are located such as area of a state, etc. and how far you are willing to go to get one. Someone might know of one near you, or a place to check.

Happy hunting, hope you get lucky.

Check your local Trader papers. There are two around here that deal with N Fords and utility MF,and one good salvage yard. All of them get loaders often. Stop at a dealer and ask where you might find used parts.
