I was given my late grandpas massey harris 22. Need to change oil and have few questions.
What oil is recommended?
Should i fill the oil filter canister when I install the new element?
On the oil bath air filter what weight oil should i put in it and how full?

you could use 10-30, 10-40, . 20-50 is good in summer time use also. the air cleaner takes the same oil the engine uses. there is a full mark inside the cup. no need to fill oil filter canister , oil pump will do that. todays oils are far superior to oil in those days.

If you don't know what has been used in the past use straight 30 weight NON DETERGENT oil year around. Don't ever use detergent oil in something that has never had it. It can, and probably will, loosen all of the sludge that is in the lines and the bottom of the pan. That can plug the small ports like rod holes that lube the bearings and crankshaft.

Congratulations, I have my grandpa's 22. Follow the advice of the previous posters and then if you don't have an operators, service, and parts manuals, get them.

What year?
