MF202 Strange thing

Took the 202 out today with the landscape rake on it. worked about 3 hours and my property looks beautiful. I'm totally in love with my new power steering on that thing.

Anyway, there was one scrub or juniper bush/tree about five feet tall and I didn't like where it was. So, I decided to use the bucket to push it out at the base. I put it in low and first gear and started to push against it. A funny thing happened, both tires rear tires were slipping in the soft (from recent rain) ground. But both tires were going in unison like it had a differential lock. But it doesn't have one. Why wouldn't just one tire spin? The lugs on the tires are worn but not really that bad.

Any way, I attacked it from the other side and did manage to push it out.

Both tires will spin if they loose traction equally. They might have been cycling one to the other but so close and quick you couldn't see it. Just the way it goes sometimes.

Hi, I think Jim is right there. Probably
doesn't happen vey often but the
differential in rare circumstances will
send exactly the same driving force to
each wheel when ground conditions are the
same on both sides. You can of course
create a form of differential lock by
jabbing the left and right brake pedals
alternately quickly.

Unfortunately, I've gotten used to using the foot throttle and usually have the hand throttle set low enough that if I took my foot off the pedal to try that, it wouldn't work.

The foot throttle is nice for some things but I would rather use the hand throttle for most things. As noted, a little tap here and there on the left or right brake can help you in numerous situations. Before I did my power steering conversion I couldn't steer without the brakes!

I agree with you. I'm going to have to remember that the hand throttle is there for a reason.
