Super 90 diesel Massey

I found an alternator with the tach drive on yesterdaystractors parts page. Info says it will work on the gas tractors with the tach drive off the back of the generator. this is the Part No: ADR0382
Does anyone know if this will work on a Super 90 perkins diesel tractor which also has the tach drive of the back it? It is listed for the gas super 90 as that is how I found it, but does not mention diesel tractors. Is the gearing the same on the drive and do the engines rotate the same directions? These are a few questions I have to begin with. Thanks for any good help I might get in advance.

(quoted from post at 17:55:59 01/09/20) It should work fine as gas and diesel tractors used the same RPM/Speedometer, and those were different depending on the transmission.

Thanks dieseltech,
I just was not sure since they only stated gas engines on YT site. So if I understand you correctly. The gears on the tach drive that is on the diesel generator output shaft has the same number of teeth as the gas version generator. Is that correct?

(quoted from post at 10:57:45 01/10/20) The gas and diesel generators where different, as diesel used a higher amp system for charging. The tach drives and dash meters were the same.

OK that should help. I got another generator w/o tach drive option from a neighbor of mine, who runs a JD 20 and 30 series salvage company. So I will get by without a tach until the temps are better, as I need the tractor now for blowing snow as I run a IHC 80 blower on it. I figure this at least will get me going again. I will likely order one and convert it when I have more time. I assume I will have to change the wiring in the system on the old Voltage regulator since the new alternator has a built in one. I think I will try to self excite it. Have you or anyone else had any experience doing this? I'd like to know how well this works. I've read that they need to run at a minimum of 800 RPM to work that way.
Thanks, for your help

If it's a one wire Delco it won't need anything but installed. Depending on pulley size, it MIGHT not begin charging until engine is sped up a bit after starting. Smaller pulley will spin it faster, so system will begin charging at a lower speed.

OK that is what I was thinking of doing with the pulley as the generator has about a 4.5" right now. I was thinking of a 3" or so. I guess, I wasn't thinking of the single wire option when I mentioned the rewire of the system regulator above. Sorry for the confusion. That was definitely my bad there in the wording. Thanks for all the feedback and knowledge on the massey gas vs. diesel tachs that will help me alot.
