Massey-Harris 44 question

Picture attached. What is the device mounted on top of the transmission? Some kind of mechanical power lift? Has some kind of foot pedal and at least one splined shaft. If you had a two-row mounted corn picker, would this lift it? Would there have been any other kind of Massey-Harris attachment that used this?

Yes it is a mechanical lift. Used for cultivators etc. I dont know about a corn picker, I come from potato country.

It was an early option, before hydraulics became popular, and was used only for a mounted cultivator. Once the hydraulic system was developed, it became more popular since it could be used for multiple applications, including the 3 pth. Watch your left heel when using.....
