I am trying to help a friend whose cattle ripped all the plug wires off. I am familiar with IH, but not MF, and never had any dealings with a 3 cylinder. Is the firing order 1,3,2, and where is 1 on the cap, he says there are no markings on the cap. Thanks.
 

Remove #1 plug and remove the distributor cap. Bump it over and watch which way the rotor turns while holding a finger over the #1 spark plug hole. When the pressure pushes your finger away, it is coming up on compression, and rotor should be close to pointing at where #1 should be. Put #1 wire the hole that lines up with the rotor (or the one it just passed if it went by compression) and install the other wires in the firing order going the same direction the rotor was turning. Firing order is 1-2-3. If it has a 6 cylinder cap on it skip a hole between each wire.
 
Below is a quote from Big Dean. He used to post here before he died. You didn't need to question his info.

"The firing order for the AG3-152 Perkins 3 cylinder engine is 1-2-3 distributor rotation is counterclockwise points gap is 0.021 plug gap is 0.025"

Number one on the distributer cap can be found by rotating #1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke. Then just remove the cap and see which tower the rotor is pointing to.
 
Jeff's tractor is now running, and I wish to thank you all for the help. I have learned that the insulation on much of the new wires, including spark plug wires are made from soy bean oil, which apparently the cattle and horses apparently can smell and really like. Jeff has learned to park his tractor in a different shed where the cattle cannot get to it. :lol:
 
I am curious, on the 3 cylinder engine3 are the crank throws 180 degrees as on a 4 cylinder but have c counterbalance to keep the vibration down, or they mounted at different points in the rotation than 180 degrees?
 
I've never overhauled a three cylinder, but I'm pretty sure the crank pins are spaced equally around the 360 degree circle. In other words, 120 degrees apart.
