Knocking Perkins

(quoted from post at 05:19:32 11/21/19) Sounds like a normal 3 cylinder MF 35 to me...
Ben

this is pretty heartening to me... sorry for asking but I had never run 3 cyl perkins before...

Sounds normal to me, sounds just like my brothers ad3.152 Perkins in his MF150 tractor that he bought used in 1975. My 135 sounds pretty much the same also.

Pump spec sheet shows it has 4 degrees pump, 8 degrees crankshaft speed advance. You could try to quiet it some by retarding the pump timing a bit, loosen the three pump stud nuts and turn housing WITH the pump rotation marked on the tag arrow. To much advance COULD be the cause of the engine damage you had earlier.
Do NOT turn the pump with engine running!!!

I got your point! Currently the tag on the pump flange does match with the tag on the timing gear cover...

So should i rotate it counter or clockwise (from the driver pow)?

Would you think the noise in the clips is because of this worng timing?

Thasnk

here pump timinig specs mine is WW47E

Been awhile since I repaired an AD3.152 late model pump, if I recall pump drive turns clockwise, and pulling the top of pump AWAY from engine will retard timing to make engine run quieter. Most three cylinder Perkins never used the advance option for years, and timing was fixed. Idea of speed advance is to have engine timing retarded for easier cold starts, then advance as engine speeds up for best power/economy. I'd ALIGN the pump with the gearcase mark and see how it sounds then. If that is worse, go back the other way..

thank you for the suggestion, I may give a try then.

Should I just loosen the flange nuts or also the fuel line / injectors line?

Do you think the sound in the video is quite a knocking issue?

Sound of some three cylinders can be a bit loud, yours is still more quiet than some Fords I've heard. Injection lines should be OK left tight, would not hurt to loosen them before moving the pump though. Most times I leave them alone.

thank you, theres' let s say couple of mm (1/16") mismatch between th4e tags on th pumps/ timing gear coven, could it be it has been already rotate to modify the advance when the head was decked?

Thank

[b:ea0722f994]Question:[/b:ea0722f994] if an engine knocks, would it knock at any rpm?

Or might it just knock let's say a half throttle stroke (1000 rpm) and then disappear at higher rpms?

thank you all

any suggestion? I really do not have any clue about this issue...

cheers... no one can kindly give some suggestion? I am not realli in to this... thanks a lot

(quoted from post at 06:27:59 12/16/19) Sounds good to me, did you try moving the pump timing either way yet then see how it sounds?

not yet. but my questions I cannot get rid of was (copy paste)

"if an engine knocks, would it knock at any rpm?

Or might it just knock let's say a half throttle stroke (1000 rpm) and then disappear at higher rpms"

I can notice a strange tic tic loud at1000 when driving..then if i push the throttle to high rpms the noise disappears..

(quoted from post at 08:44:23 12/16/19) SOME engine noises stay loud at all speeds, some can get more quiet with speed. Try moving the pump timing first and see what happens.

Hi guys, had the chance to look at this issue and at some rpm the engine sounds pretty loud to me .

This was the inj pump set before...

now I got the two marks aligned by turning it clock wise.

to me it is not clear if turning the pump clockwise will advance or retard the timing...
