Massey Ferguson 165 3 point lift questions

My 3 point will raise and lower but I don't really have any in between. What things could I look at or check to fix it. Meaning like if I need to have my box blade just a little off the ground to spread a pile of dirt i can't. It's either pick it up or put it down. Won't really stop in between. If it makes a difference I have the big spool valve in front of the seat for the loader but it's not on the tractor yet, I have to replace some lines kn it.

Hello, there is very little that you can
do short of removing the hydraulic cover.
The problem is likely to be a bent or
damaged position control frame. When you
raise or lower the quadrant lever it puts
the pump into pumping or discharge. As
the 3-point linkage responds to the
command, the pump lever slowly returns to
the neutral position. It appears that you
have the initial command working but it
is failing to select intermediate
positions. You can check this draining
the oil to the level of the bottom bolt
and remove the rh side cover. The pump
lever should always return to the
appropriate vertical position after a
quadrant command is given.

Are you using the right lever? If using the DRAFT lever it will act like that. The POSITION lever is what should use for stopping the lift at a given point.

To be honest I'm not positive. Unless I'm not doing something right one of them doesn't really seem to do anything. The one with the round knob will make it go up and down( the one towards the outside) the other one doesn't really seem to do anything unless I'm not using it right(square knob closest to the driver's seat). I tried according to the owner's manual I thought but not positive

Ok thank you I'm going to change fluid soon so that will be a perfect time to check it I guess. Gonna try to change the filter in the pump and see what's going with the multipower

There is no pump filter, just an inlet screen. SOME can be reached through the left side PTO shift cover IF the tractor has the two stage flywheel clutch. If it has the IPTO hydraulic actuated clutch, the screen can only be removed AFTER the lift cover is removed. Look at the inner position control lever, if tractor has the pressure control option, lever moves REARWARD to lower the three point and forward past the stop is used for the pressure control hitch. If it does not have pressure control, then lever moves forward to lower the three point. All depends how tractor is equipped.

As far as that goes all the stickers and stuff are gone off the quadrants so I really can't tell. Mine has the live PTO. Neutral, ground speed, and engine. Has the dual stage clutch. And multipower

Before you go opening up a bunch of stuff that may or may not be inoperative try this using Dieseltech's earlier answers. Start tractor, neutral, wheels blocked. Place the lever with the round top to the position where your box blade raises and stays there, now move the 'other' lever, with the square top up OR down and watch what happens. If everything is working properly then your blade will move up or down and stay there. The Draft lever, round top, must be in the UP position or close BEFORE your Position, square top lever, will work. Give it a try and report back. I hope that is the only issue you have.
