Massey Ferguson 40 or 40B? Need year / Service Manual

I recently purchased a Massey Ferguson 40 or 40B with a Perkins diesel that I am trying to decipher the year. She needs some weld repairs and some hydraulic seals rebuilt but other than that appears to be pretty solid. Is has a hydrostatic trans (tri pedal - reverse, throttle, forward) I am also looking for the correct service manual if anyone happens to gave one. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Pictures attached !

Thanks!

(quoted from post at 21:15:02 11/10/19) Thanks for the info I did post a pic of the sn tag above. It is 9A111812
I didn't see the picture of the tag until after I posted, it's been a very long day of fixing fences!!

if is has a 54 backhoe it might be a 30. I also was told the 9a prefix started in 1974 so I suspect yours might be a 76 year as your serial number is higher than mine which is a 74. you also can do a search on the net. just type what model number you think it is. you will find allot of information. just match your loader and backhoe up with what you have. yours really looks a lot like my 30 industrial I have. you can go to agco site to find the parts manual to help. you will have to search different models till you get one that matches yours. massey did a very poor job with the decals to mark there model numbers for sure. good luck.

So I can?t find the backhoe model or any marking plate with its info. I?m assuming the tag would have been on the backhoe under the control levers but this plate is gone off the tractor. The loader is a 34 for sure. The tractor has been painted over a few times but I did find one remaining MF40 sticker on the body.

With the serial number your tractor has it's a 40, a 40B serial number starts at 9A 250640 (1976). 1975 was the last year for the 40.

The mount/main frame for the model 52 backhoe.

P.S. "pinball" The 9A serial number prefix was started in 1967 NOT 1974!!

im not disputing your information at all. I know when I asked about my industrial model 30 thats what two different dealers told me. maybe they just meant industrial tractors. I admit I don't know much about masseys but am learning. I have no decals at all on mine. his would seem to be a 40 though and the year you stated would seem correct. I guess the only way I will be able to find out about mine is to run across and old service manual. massey sure is different.

For example the serial numbers for a MF2135 industrial
MF2135-Drum Brakes
Years Built-1964-1968
Engine
Perkins AD3-152 3 Cyl. Horse Power 40, Fuel Diesel
Continental Z134, Horse Power 37, Fuel Gas
Transmissions
8 Speed 8/2
6 Speed 6/2
Manual Shuttle 6/6
Serial Numbers
Year Starting NO
1964 ---- 646000001
1965 ---- 646000190
1966 -----646001465
1967 ---- 9A10001
1968 ---- 9A39836

correct me if I'm wrong but I'm certain that
Massey Ferguson industrial 40 were 3 Cyl diesel Perkins
Industrial 30 and 40B were 4 Cyl diesel Perkins

how many cylinders is your Diesel

The 40 uses the 3 cylinder.

I know I'm chiming in really late to this conversation, so please forgive me. I'm having trouble identifying my tractor as well. I've located the model tags on the backhoe (on the right side above the outrigger) and the loader (on the left lift arm, if I remember correctly), and I found the serial number tag by the steering wheel (SN# 9A-71752). I believe it's a mid to late 60's model 30 or 30B, but I'm not sure. The backhoe is a mf54 and the loader is a mf32. I'm not sure if it is 3 or 4 cylinders, I will check. I'd post pictures but it's in too sad a state and will be for a while yet.
