Ferguson TO30 slow cranking and wont start

I have a Ferguson TO30 6 volt that I recently acquired. I have replaced the points, condenser, distributor cap,, key switch, Coil, battery and some of the wiring. I checked the gapping on the spark plugs and the points. I have 6 volts at the battery, key, coil, distributor. When I try to start the tractor it turns over slow and I don?t have spark when I remove one of the spark plugs and hold close to a ground source. I checked the grounding on the positive side of the battery and made sure that it si metal on metal connection. I replaced the ground wire also and used battery terminal grease.
I have read various posts but what am I missing? I don?t know why it is turning over so slow and why I have zero spark.

Be SURE the tractor is in NEUTRAL / OUT OF GEAR....

Is your Tractor (+) POSITIVE EARTH or (-) EARTH

My 6v Farmall would crank slowly and was hard to start for many years. It got me to thinking that maybe I should swap over to 12v. Last year the battery became so weak that I had to jump it to get it to run. I put a new 6v battery in it and it cranks very fast (which is normal if you have a good battery, good cables and good connections). Any thought of changing to a 12v is gone. So, your slow cranking is probably due to a weak battery, bad cables or bad connections. I would suspect a weak battery. Make sure it is fully charged. Some say you can use a 12v battery for jumping a 6v (which I did when needed), but do so at your own risk. It will turn your starter very quickly and if your ignition is good and you have fuel it should fire up.

If it still won t start, you may try posting this in the "Harry Ferguson" forum on this site.

The starter may need new brushes, and bushings/bearings. The starter will be slow if the brushes are gone, or if the bushings/bearing is worn enough so the armature drags.
