135 Massey governor compensating spring

Good morning. The governor compensating spring is broken on my 135 massey continental engine. I ordered a new spring but I cannot find location of its mounting hole. The broken end is hanging from link fastened to throttle rod. But there is no sign of the other piece or its anchor point. Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

Marv

Thanks ptfarmer I think I located hole. It's all filled with crud but can see what looks like spring wire sticking out. May have some trouble installing new spring. Seems like it may hit vertical governor rod. Will review when new spring arrives.

That spring is there to help the throttle friction disc hold in the upper engine speed range. You may need to shift it along the shaft for clearance. If I recall it works best with the strap just leaving rod contact at low idle, and must pull farther away from the rod as throttle is pulled toward wide open.

Thanks for the info. Does anyone know if spring can be installed without removing gas tank?

It can be installed with the gas tank on, easier to hook the spring to the engine first then hook the other end to the link on the throttle rod.
