MF 40 Loader on a MF 65?

Hi,

I was looking around online and I found someone in my neighborhood selling a loader from an MF 40. It comes with the external hydraulic pump and a built in reservoir. He is asking $1200 CAD (around $900 USD at the time of writing this). Is this a reasonable price for a loader? I will be negotiating this. I am hoping to be able to lift up to 1000 lb round bales with the loader. Would my tractor be able to handle this? The back tires are loaded, but I'm more concerned with the front axles. Assuming it would be OK with care, would this loader even fit on my tractor? If so, how much work would be involved with mounting the loader and pump?

A 40 would be an industrial model with a heavy duty loader . I am not familiar with
the loader numbers, but measuring should show whether or not it would fit, but it
may have more lifting capacity than your front end would handle. Sure, you can
limit it to 1000 pound loads and be ok, but we all know that eventually we would
try to lift more than we should....

If your hydraulic pump runs off front pulley, you want to check if you steering
linkage gets in the way while turning left or right. Not sure about the loader you
found.
 
If it's a MF40 industrial tractor it could either have a MF32, or MF34 model loader. If it's the 40 industrial tractor it won't have all the brackets to mount it or the hydraulic pump for it on a 65 (unless you have the ability to fabricate your own mounts). It's easier to find a loader that was on a tractor like you have, or buy the tractor, and loader together.
 
My 65 was a '59, and broke 2 spindles (and almost a front tooth on one fetch-up!) before I pulled it off. I don't know if later years had heavier spindles.

My loader was a much lighter type than the loader on the 40.
 
Ptfarmer's advice is good. If you go for it, check the bushing and pin wear. An old industrial loader (early 70s) will have been well used.
