I am installing a new wiring harness that has a blue wire that runs from the field terminal on the generator to the light switch. My problem is the generator on my tractor does not have a field terminal. Do I have the wrong generator? Can I still make it work?

yes it has a field terminal, and an armature terminal. never saw a generator with out a field terminal. are you sure your talking about the generator?

As you can see by the photo the generator has a single wire coming out of it that attaches to the cut out relay. The yellow wire goes up to the ammeter. I thought insults were not allowed on here.

Ignore the blue wire, as there's no terminal on your older-style generator to connect it to.

The reason it goes to the light switch is when used with the correct generator and light switch combination the blue wire is used to increase the generator charging rate when the switch is pulled out to the first detent, or when pulled the rest of the way to turn the lights on.
