Pinion Dust

Hello All,

I have an issue.

Turns out that the Pinion and Crown Gear are screwed in my MF135.

Several serious chunks missing from the pinion.

New parts on the way, but how do I get rid of all the fine metal particles from the transmission?

[b:654c4848f0]Is there any way to flush the transmission, maybe diesel?[/b:654c4848f0]

Can I add [b:654c4848f0]8 gallons[/b:654c4848f0], drive it a few feet drain and fill with diff/hyd oil?

Would that even make a difference? Should I even worry about it?

Cheers,

Brad

tractor needs to come apart, and things are washed meticulously then. flushing hardly does a thing with those fine particles. diesel is the worst thing for flushing. I would be more concerned about getting the crown and pinion set properly than washing filings.

Hi, as Rustred has said the setting of the new CW&P are more important. I would mop as much oil out as you can and then fix a small magnet onto a piece of stiff wire and scour every where that you can get it into. You will always find a layer of sludge building up on the bottom where there is no direct oil flow to keep it clean. Provided that it does not reach the hydraulic filter then there should be no problem. You can always brush or spray diesel onto any dirty areas and wipe it cleaner.

As the others said getting the ring gear and pinion set up right is essential. As to metallic particles, get everything you can cleaned out and put a good strong magnet in the bottom of the housing. That will pick up any particles that come near it. I always liked the idea of a magnetic drain plug. IMO

Thank-you...
I?m putting the trumpet and tire back on and dragging it into my shop. It?s going to be a winter project... I?ve got a friend who will be setting up the crown and pinion.
