I am visiting a family member on leave and he has a Massey Harris 44 in the tree row that I found interesting. I m not a Massey guy but I d like to id the year and option on this if possible. The serial number is 44-GS 12813, and it has a wide front on it without a three point, but does have a pto.
It was used around Lisco Nebraska on dry wheatland.

Any help is appreciated and I can take more pictures tomorrow if anyone needs them.

1950 44 gas standard. Good tractor, lots built, but some new parts can be hard to
source. Looks like as easy save!

Does it run or does it need major engine work? Just asking, because pistons and sleeves are near impossible to purchase new. Even though all the catalogs say they have them in stock.....

It hasn t run in about 15 years so Im going to throw a battery in it and see what happens today. Thanks for the info on this!

best to remove the plugs and oil the cyl.s before cranking it over. plus check to make sure valves are not stuck. plus use a hand crank first as you can tell how tight it is. if cyl's are rusty just throwing a battery in it will bind it right up . have seen that happen many times.

Yea I will, it comes with an old engine. I am trying to get an Allis WC going too, it spins freely which was a nice surprise.

Also, I m new to this forum, is there a quick reply option so that I don t have to reply to another post every time.
