How do you remove the PTO seal retainer housing on rear of a Massey Ferguson 175? Does the lift cover have to be removed or case split? Or can the retainer housing just be pried out?

Remove the two tapered screws holding the retainer plate. Then with a punch in the shaft hole, pry on the punch with a crowbar and pull the shaft assembly out. Hope you drained the oil first..

Thanks for the info, I'll give it a try!

what happens if you cannot get the pto shaft out? the seal block comes out like an inch and stops...........it is on a mf 150....same setup though...........we have even pulled on it with a comealong tied to
a tree......no good........ideas? never seen this ever

On my MF175, I used a phillips screw driver thru the pto shaft retainer pin hole positioned horizontally and used a large crowbar between the rear differential and screwdriver to pry out shaft and seal housing. I worked both sides evenly to prevent binding.
