135 Massey Ferguson won't start

I was cutting grass when I noticed some farm tools in my path. I set the gear shift in neutral, but left the PTO on, and got off the tractor. I was off it for about a minute and then it cut off. I tried starting it but it wouldn't turn over. I read in another posting that I might have tripped the safety shutoff, but it looked like it was bypassed. Any suggestions?

My old Masseys seem to often have a bad connection on the battery terminals. I would start there and be sure the battery connections were good, before I did other diagnosis.

If the charging system is not working a it should if he battery get below a point of charge it can cause it to die and then it would not turn over. So you might check the battery an make sure it is fully charged. Also check the battery cable at the battery and at the ground and starter connection and make sure there clean tight and bright

The only safety shutoff is the neutral safety switch that prevents starting in gear. It has no bearing on whether it runs or not. That said if the previous owner butchered the wiring it "may" be an issue. As mentioned start with the battery and the charging system.

had this happen myself on my tractor and old cars. Definitely worth looking at. I'd take the battery cables off and clean the posts and cable ends really well.

It s running again and the problem was attributed to two things. One: One of the battery post had to thoroughly cleaned. Two: This is embarrassing, the ignition cable was pulled out a little.

Thank you all for you helpful suggestions.
