Oil leaks - how much is too much?

Here is a picture of the floor under my diesel 150. This is after two hours of heavy bush hoggin. It's been losing a lot of oil, through the crankcase breather, oil pan gasket, maybe other places. The oil pressure maxes out the gauge.

I'm wondering if this warrants a rebuild, or if this is more normal for these engines? There's 4400 hours on a broken hour meter.

Sorry here is the pic.

That is A LOT of leaking. Even though the engine sounds like it runs well, and has good oil pressure, you're getting excess oil vapor out of the breather. With that much oil pressure you probably have nice bearing surfaces but the rings and liners are probably starting to glaze. Resealing the exterior parts of the engine still requires a split or nearly a split...you might as well go for a rebuild at that point.[/list]

Exactly what I thought, but didn't want to hear!

Dang it!!

But thank you.

I think it's somewhat ironic that you use a dollar bill to give an indication of how much oil you are leaking;-) That oil is the same as money on the ground and on your shop floor not counting what you lost in the field. BUT ask yourself how much oil can you buy with the cost of an overhaul. A full overhaul might run $4000 or more if a shop does it, that will buy a lot of oil. Do you want to keep the tractor forever or is it time to move on? Only you can answer that question.

are you sure its engine oil and not transmission oil ? or both ? that is not a lot of oil after running it for two hours

Check closely, see where the leak is. If leak is front crank seal then replacement is not that bad, its part of timing gear cover. If rear main crank seal, you have to split tractor, pull clutch and adapter plate. Not sure about oil pan which is part of tractor support.
