Hi Guys, last year about this time I had a small knock in the engine, so put in a new set of rod bearings, nothing changed, still had that little knock.
Now its getting louder and notice engine is missing.
Had rocker cover off and could not pin point where the noise is coming from, checked and adjusted rockers, noise is still there.

When starting up no noise for about 5 seconds, then loud knocking, then when oil pressure gets up to 14lbs, the noise will lighten a little.

Just can figure out where this noise is coming from.

When you checked the Crankshaft Journals for size and concentricity what was the readings?

Final assembled running clearances of bearings on Crankshaft?

Well Bob, I cant remember the readings but plastigauged the crank every 1/3rd rotation and remember looking at the min. and min. and showed it was OK in the book..
But, that really doesnt mean its ok I guess..

Can u determine which cylinder is missing by removing spark plug wires, and does it change the knock any by pulling plug wires one at a time!!!!

I'm not a betting man......however, I feel you do "NOT" have a problem with Bearings, mains and or Connecting Rods.....you checked the MIN /MAX so they are probably fine...

Bob....

I will try this today, hope before it gets to hot.

Now have start solenoid out of lawn tractor, someone else pulled it out for me, now I see about 7 wires hanging loose,Hey buddy, were do these wires go, I Dont Know.. Geeesss

Anyway, On the Z134, Could it possible be a problem in the valve train.
Why did the missing seem to get a little worse with time...

I will be back as soon as I can, gotta get the mower running now.

Thanks,
Tim

I have all my scribbling down somewhere, wife likes to come into shop and say,,,,can I throw this, can I throw this, can I throw this, she means well but aggravates the s..t out of me...but I think I have the paper in tool box..

I'll be back..

I the back of my old mind, something tells me its in the valve train, can something in there cause a loud knock, I had cars with bad crank bearing and this seem different, its not that loud thump type knock, its loud but a little higher pitched...

Tim

As all ready suggested......

Can u determine which cylinder is missing by removing spark plug wires,(when engine is running) and does it change the knock any by pulling plug wires one at a time!!!!

Also, with the fuel tank removed, rocker cover removed crank engine over and verify if all valves are opening and closing....you should get an idea if there are any faulty CAM LOBES, or something else in the valve train...

If you preform a Compression check...and one cylinder is noticeable low....

Bob...

Hey Tim I have a Massey Harris 50 with that same engine. Mine developed a knock about 5 years ago. It took me a while to find it but mine was a worn wrist pin bushing. A lot of work but something to look at.

Just thinking out loud but does it stop if you push in on the clutch? I sometimes get a knock in my mf65 when the hydraulics are working heavy. If I push in on the clutch it quits. Just a thought.
