MF 135 Tachometer

I picked up a tiller for my MF 135 this season, so my tachometer became important to me. I didn't have a cable, so I ordered one. I believe it is suppose to attach to the back of the generator on my tractor, but my generator just has no attachment. I'm not sure if that means the generator was replaced at some point, and maybe that's why the cable was missing to begin with.

I'm looking for any thoughts on another tach connection I'm unaware of? Is replacing the Delco generator I have the only way I can get a working tach?

Thank you in advance.

If your tractor has the Continental engine, the tach drive is on the back of the generator. If it is the Perkins engine, I believe the tach is driven from the back of the camshaft.

Thanks

I don't think I have anything comparable to the "W" terminal on my generator, but your reply got me looking at other alternatives; I think I'll try an inductive tachometer as an add-on for now.

It's Continental, but no place to plug the tach in on the generator. I assume that my uncle put a replacement delco generator on at some point, but it didn't have the tach hook up.

My MF135 Continental has the tach attachment on the back of the generator. It is the original generator that came with the tractor when new. Looks like yours was changed somewhere down the line. I know of no other way to attach the cable to get your RPM readout.

(quoted from post at 14:53:56 05/28/19) You could use an aftermarket automotive tach that has leads that attach to the coil.
:?:
Don't suppose anyone makes an aftermarket tack with the correct MF markings that match like the original..? If not What is the closest one to it? I am resurrecting a '65 135 with a Z145 Cont. engine. Want to convert it to an alternator.
Or is there an alternator with the proper tach hookup..?
Thanks all. I love that there is so much info and parts available for the old MF's....
I grew up with JD, Worked as parts man in 70's for IH, love them both, but it seems there is so much more parts available for MF and at reasonable prices... ( I haven't bothered to look for the other guys stuff though..)

e-bay......
