Cannot find a Perkins A3.152 oil sump screen

I cannot seem to find a Perkins sump screen that will fit my pickup tube. My stock screen is so full of gunk I would rather replace it. My model does not allow the sump to drop out the bottom of the pan - it has a spring that the sump screen threads on to. Well I found 1 replacement and the diameter of the hole is massive - does not fit on my pickup tube. Do I have to run a strainer? Could I just run the pickup tube down in to the pan and nix the strainer?

Interesting FullPullLarry.......

I'm going to follow this post to see the out come.

Yeah my pan is 1 piece. I am going to try and clean the stock screen somehow but it has a lot of grunge and metal bits in it. If it doesn't come clean I am just gonna run the engine without the screen. If something breaks in my engine without the screen there the damage is already done anyway.

My past career was such that we cleaned inlet metal screens with the aid of an Ultrasonic Cleaner....cleaning medium/ solution was heated by an electric element with in the base of UNIT:

Here's an example from a small engine shop:
