What to replace before installing engine on MF35?

I am rebuilding my engine now. Original clutch looks fine so it will go back in. Throwout bearing and pilot bearing are done so they're being replaced. I don't want to have to remove the engine to do anything in the bellhousing portion of the transmission (like seals). So what should I replace in there? I assume theres an input seal I could replace? Anything else?

If it helps any, my tractor has the dual clutch. I haven't removed the throwout bearing and retainer yet but it would seem there
will be a seal back behind there? Anyone know whether it is listed for sale by YT?

Yes, there is an input shaft seal that can be replaced and is sold here on YT. I put a link to it below. You will want to have the service manual to change the seal as there are a number of steps to follow to get out the input shaft.

I replaced the input shaft seal on mine its pretty easy to do. There is another seal inside the shaft housing but unless you have a special driver to install it I would leave it alone its most likely good anyway. I machined a stepped driver to change mine out because someone had butchered mine up. The big seal on the end of the shaft housing is about a 10 minute job.

Thanks. I need to dig into my manual again and see if I can find that other seal. When I removed my engine there was a ton of water in the bellhousing but no oil. The oil level in the transmission sump is low on the dipstick but even still it doesn’t look like it’s leaked any oil into the bell. The new input seal and possibly new clutch disk are just basic insurance in my mind.

The only reason I replaced mine is they weren't leaking they were pouring. They had been installed wrong. If mine hadn't been leaking I would have left them alone

Is this the other seal you mention? I don’t know the tractor too well yet but I fear splitting the tractor again so I would rather think about doing the seal now. https://www.yesterdaystractors.com/Ferguson-TO35_Main-Drive-Pinion-Shaft-Seal_195501M1.html

REMEMBER it takes a special piloted driver to install that seal, it dosent go in like a regular seal it goes in backwards from a regular seal. It drives against the front of the seal not the back and it is really easy to screw it up. Again if it isn't leaking or torn up I would leave the small inner seal alone. Just my 2 cents worth

One other thing I forgot to mention to replace that inner seal you have to remove the collar that the release bearing rides on. It bolts to the front of the transmission and if you have a multi power transmission there is a hydraulic line and some linkage to get back right. You cant replace the inner seal with that collar still on the transmission. Like I said the big seal is a 10 minute job max the little seal inside the collar is a whole different animal. I would offer you my seal driver that I machined to install mine but its already been cut down for something else.

Thank you. I don't have multipower, but I might as well replace that seal and know its new. I think the collar you mention is the input bearing retainer maybe? I don't mind pulling that retainer and possibly making a seal driver of some sort.

Quick question: what is the story with that cotter pin thats sitting through the bottom of the bell housing? Is that something to clear the water weep hole?

Yep it just helps keep the hole clear, without it dirt and grime could clog it up
