CAV pump on MF 65

I went to start my old 65,no go.It has gone from a working tractor to about 3 hours a year.I did use it last summer, and I knew the fuel was a couple years old so I changed it.I ran it a couple more hours and parked it.I have fuel to the injection pump,it runs out pretty good on just gravity. If I operate the transfer pump it really squirts out.I have no fuel coming out of the delivery ports while cranking though. It seems I can almost remember taking the cover off the top of the pump and freeing up a little valve,or a shaft that was the fuel shutoff.Would that be something I did on this CAV pump? I could be thinking of another pump on another tractor altogether.I have had this tractor since 1982.For the most part I just R&R pumps for other people.I only get into some like old Caterpillar and Cummins pumps, and only certain things on those.Where this tractor was running great, and was shut off and parked for a couple of months something has gummed up.

I repair a lot of older pumps, most that set awhile come in with stuck metering valve, and stuck rotor plungers too. Any traces of water in fuel, or bio diesel will guarantee parts will be stuck, and a complete tear down and cleaning is then needed. Some have so much buildup the weights won't even fall out of the weight cage too..

I got it straightened out.The local pump guy I use came back,(he was on vacation)and told me to come up and pick up a gasket and some o-rings.He reminded me that I had done this before. As soon as I picked the cover up I tried to move the metering valve, and it had a little resistance to it.As soon as I moved it the the resistance was gone. Also the little inlet valve slid a little tighter than it should have.Squirted some fresh fuel on it and it slid on it's own.No real gumminess, but just starting.Fuel shows no signs of water or spooge in it.I have never had any biodiesel here.Although that tractor got used last October,we have been thinking the fuel might have been three years old.
