1150 simms injection pump

Looking for help with simms pump. Have a P5218 pump that seems to be the same as a P5101 in measurements but cannot get above idle as it seems to over fuel. Local shop says too old and not able to help. Does the rack always stick on these after sitting for a while?

The 1150 original pump was P5101, and it had ball bearings on the camshaft. The P5218 came on the 1155 and would fit 1150 also, it has tapered cam bearings. If the rack sticks, it either won't start, OR will overspeed. On any inline pump it only takes one stuck plunger to stick the rack. If it's set awhile since last running I'll bet there are one or more stuck plungers, been seeing that a lot on pumps in for repair lately. Have an IH 706 pump apart now with several parts stuck inside..

anks for the reply. One shop I called thought the 5218 only pumped 60 cc and the 5101 pumped 80 cc hard to understand with the same size plungers. Yes one engine was stuck wide open and the other shut off. Have all the plungers free but broken ends of screw drivers in chamber looked bad. If i set the rack in the off position and loosen the arm that moves the plunger to the off position on the one that was loose and out of position will that be close enough to function ? Are there any manuals for this pump ? Thanks

Unless you have the test stand BEST leave the rack forks ALONE.. Both used the same plungers, 5218 was set for 71 CC full load for the 540 engine, 5101 was set higher at 82 CC for the 510. I've worked on both pumps in the past and have a few parts left, brother still has two 1150 V-8s still in use. The 5101 had problems breaking the cam nose, never saw it happen on the 5218 with the heavier tapered bearings.
