Engine overhaul

Well got the head back from the machine shop with 6 new valves, got the block out of the vat and painted. I installed the new liners this evening. The crank was beyond hope so I found a good used one that had been turned .010/.010. Rods are resized with new wrist pin bushings. My question now is does it matter which way the pistons point. There are no markings on them as the photo shows.

When I pulled it down the rod numbers were on the side opposite the cam. if you were sitting in the tractor the rod numbers were on the left side.

I was always taught to have #s toward the cam, but don't see any reason why. Don't remember doing a tractor engine with flat top pistons that
need to have any special alignment. Maybe someone who is more knowledgeable will chime in.

On some flat top piston engines, they can go either way. Confirm by measuring the wristpin to piston skirt OD, if it's the same on each side it can go either way. On Perkins engines, rod cylinder numbers go AWAY from the camshaft, opposite of what most other engine builders do.
