Allen wrench size to remove double spool valve from top plat

1964 MF85. I need to remove the double spool valve from the top plate. A 3/8" Allen wrench is too big and a 5/16" is too small. Searching for a size in between is not yielding much. Is there a special size needed? I have cleaned the grease and dirt from the socket head cap screw. Thank you.

9mm or H9 as it's called in my socket set
is in between. However that socket in my
set has no wear. I've taken those valve
off before and stripped the head and had
to drill them out.

I've had to drill the bolt heads off before too, then lift the valve off. Should be 3/8 size, have you tried tapping it in? Bolt head may be very rusty too.

I have not tried tapping on the wrench yet. I will, and thanks to everyone for the replies. What's the best drill size and type (e.g. cobalt) for drilling the heads off? Thank you :D

As the others said drill out the heads with a 7/16 drill. I had to do that on mine. Poor design, water gets in and rust eats out the hex for
an allen wrench. The bolts will tun out easily after you remove the valve.

I cleaned the crud out of the back cap screw head and a 5/16" Allen wrench fit okay, a little loose at the top. These were definitely not 3/8". Saying a prayer and pushing down really hard while turning the breaker bar broke it loose. The front cap screw head was really rounded out at the top, but the same technique broke it loose too, a small miracle. New cap screws are a 3/8" Allen head. The O.D. of the head is a little bigger, but 7/16" NC none the less. Thanks to all for the help! Now to replace all of the o-rings and put it back together. Anybody know what the two knurled knobs in the back of the two-spool valve are for? They look to possibly limit how far the poppet can move to the rear. Thanks again! :D
