Massey Ferguson 50 governor

Governor wasn't working, found broken governor cage, replaced and everything else looked ok , adjusted carb rod ,started and it idles open throttle and governor doesn't respond and engine runs away, worked at Massey Ferguson dealer 35 plus years ago and can not remember much about this motor ,more about the Perkins, any ideas? Thanks

The rod is too short, start lengthening it a turn at a time and then see how it responds. If rod is too long engine will surge, too short governor will be really lazy. Make sure both rod ends are free with no binding also, that will cause even a correct adjusted rod to not work also. From another old MF mechanic..

I hope to get to shop Friday and try lengthen rod , kinda strange had lengthen it 1/4 of inch already and I had to heat it to break it free! Just wish I could remember more! Thanks!

To adjust pull throttle full open-- take carburetor rod off governor. Keep rod pulled
open toward radiator and push governor forward (don't force) and adjust rod until pin
goes in easy. This will be set.

Took cover off too many times and straighten lever that rides on governor , readjusted linkage to where originally was and it works, thanks for the help
