Mystery gear in MHF 202 housing

As I always do, I tried to figure this out on my own. I got no where.

The rear drive shaft assembly connect to the with a coupling with a cotter pin the slides. This allows us to remove the hydraulic pump.

I am not sure if this coupling connects directly to the pinion drive or not.

The curious thing to me is that on the splined shaft that may or may not be the pinion, there is a gear on that splined shaft. The coupling slide towards that gear.

I see nothing that would connect to or operate from that gear. Is it there to throw oil? OR Did my brain implode and I missed something?

Thanks.

Never heard of the term. Looked it up and still have no clue. lol

What is it used for and how would you access it?

Thanks,
Don

I think I found something that explains it... part of my naiveness is that the PTO on my 202 never worked and I have no implements.

So I think I have just learned that the PTO speed is based on engine RPM and the ground PTO is based on axle speed.

If this were engaged to a trailer and that trailer had drive wheels that could be powered by a PTO.

But I do not see how as my 202 is setup that would engage. I read that some tractors as part of the PTO selector, have Ground Speed PTO. Not mine.

Found in another manual that the 202 does not have a ground speed PTO and does not make use of the 2 gears for that setup.

I am guessing that with mine being a MHF and not MF, it was so early that they used the pinion shaft that had the 1 gear.
