Draft and Position Lever adjustments - Conflicting procedure

Hi all,

I am adjusting the draft and position controls. I have 2 shop manuals, Big Dean and a Hydraulics video. Each has a different way to do it. In the end, do they get the job done or is there a difference in result? Below are the DVD and Big Deans instructions.

DVD

Arms lowered (they do not have the hydraulic piston in but assume one should) Position control set to fast, Draft set to center dot, levers adjusted to end of slot with the need for slight pressure. Adjust springs as required. Once done, hold levers to end of slot and adjust cam to touch for response.

BIG Dean

No mention of arms, but I assume in the down position.
For draft adj
Position control in full lift, draft to the dot adjust spring so that draft is 1/16" from edge of slot and can touch with slight pressure.
For position adj
Draft to fully raised position, position lever to fast mark,adjust spring so that draft is 1/16" from edge of slot and can touch with slight pressure.

Response adj
Position lever pressed against slot with cam adjusted to touch lever.

It's been a while since I did one but my instructions came from John (UK) who's a retired tractor engineer from the UK. He honed his craft over many decades and shared very generously with us here many of the documents he had put together. Now I think I have his method somewhere but he didn't like people sharing it, he would rather give it to you directly. I'm not sure if he's still around, last I heard he was having some health troubles.
At any rate, the method I used involved using a spring scale to adjust the tension on the levers. Again, it's been a while but once done, it seemed to work very well.

Lift arms in down position.
Position lever at fast
Draft lever between the 2 dots
Slacken nut off on eccentric cam
Get something like a luggage scales or fishing scales with some cord tied to the hook of the scales and a loop on the other end of the cord to around the end of the lever. Place loop at the tip of the lever and pull back until the lever is just kissing the end of the slot at a force of 3Ibs on each, adjustable by the locking nut
When this is done pull move the eccentric cam around to just touch the levers and tighten the nut.

There's different theories but I believe that if your draft spring assembly is seized or maybe to much play for being worn that it's not possible to make the adjustments but hopefully.you won't have any trouble

I meant to add pull levers down together to.end of slot then move the cam around and tighten
