135 steering box

Had heavy grease/oil coming out the top of my steering box. Dealer said probably just bad seals. Close to $600 to fix it. Drove it in and left it there. Got a call that it was apart and steering shaft was in bad shape. Did I want it cleaned up or replaced for another $600 in parts? I don't use it much and it probably would have outlived me without repair, so I told them to clean it up and use it. Went to pick it up when it was ready and bill was $1086 !!! Shocker! Paid anyway and started to leave. Front wheels flopped back and forth so much I couldn't drive it. Turned around and took it back before I was out of their driveway. Service manager said they hadn't touched the front end so couldn't help me. He spoke to the mechanic about it. Mechanic said he left the adjustment screws loose so they wouldn't scar the shaft any more. He got a wrench and screwdriver and snugged them up. Now it drives great. For how long? Nobody knows!
