Massey 65 Clutch stuck

I have a Massey 65 and the clutch will not disengage. When the clutch is depressed only the 3 point hitch responds, but it will not let me put it in gear. I can start it in neutral but when I try to put it in gear it just grinds.

Any ideas Thanks

Start it in gear and be prepared to take off. Hold the clutch down
and mash on the brakes and you may get it to break loose. Make sure
you're somewhere you won't run over someone or something.

Common problem on tractors. Block the clutch pedal down. Plus if you can do so safely start it in the highest gear as you can then take it for a long drive holding the clutch pedal down. Even better if you can put a load on it at the same time like a plow or disk or blade. Anything that will make it work hard and pop the clutch free.

Another thing is don't give up too quick with the afore mentioned ideas. I have found that the clutch plate won't let go until the engine is up to running temperature, so it may take a while. Seems the heat from the engine transfers to the clutch to some extent. IMHO

Hi, don't rule out the possibility that one
of the plate linings has broken
Frequently when this happens the pieces of
lining can double up on one side of the
plate and prevent release when the pedal is
pressed.

I would pull the cover on the bottom of the transmission (four bolts) and see if you have debris there. If you have a pile of them, it may be time for a new clutch. My MF-20 had a pile of what looked like mouse droppings and my clutch had shattered for some reason.
