MF 202 Workbull Front pump shaft

After getting the various issues handled with the help of this forum, my 202 has been helping me get a lot of work done.

A new issue surfaced. with the front pump shaft. The pump rotates freely, but has spun at the pulley. My setup does not look like the setups in the Loader Manual. I am hoping I can get some suggestions or guidance.

I have attached 5 pictures
1. Entire shaft
2. End that goes towards the pulley
3. End towards pump
4. Shaft goes through the front
5. Pulley attachment that I assume shaft connects to.

#1 and #2 seem to show a key slot that maybe spun? It is not a threaded end like the 102 loader manual explains.

#3. That chain and sprocket does not connect to anything that I know about, unless it is to power some type of implements. The pump shaft goes inside this.

#4 It seems like the tube goes through the front axle and I can't makes sense of it. I was going to remove the bolts and try to pull it out, but to me it seems the axle rotates on it.

#5 I don't see the kind of space between the axle and pulley that the manual shows and do not see how I would access the plate that attaches to the pulley.

Thank you!!

Looks like someone's "home brewed" front pump shaft. The chain is actually a double roll chain that is used to couple two shafts together. Chances are the coupler on the front pulley got the center spun out of it (just flat wore out) so it couldn't spin the pump shaft. The front axle support that bolts to the engine needs to be removed to access the front coupler on the pulley. The correct front coupler, and pump drive shaft should still be available.

I may not make it stock as the pump is not original either. I have to wait until I get it apart, however it will at least make sense. I am considering a flexible coupling to the pump.

Thanks,
Don

What is the serial number of the tractor? The original MF couplers have rubber bushings in them for flex. Need the serial number of the tractor to get the correct coupler, and driveshaft.

It's a MHF 202 before it became the MF 202, I think they were made for a couple of years while Massey Harris, and Ferguson were in the merging company's stage (pre 1958), so it's kind of a rare bird.

I settled on it being a 1956 so we can share the same birth year.

I am guessing over the years they pulled what they could from what they had. The pump is not a Cessna. Once I get it apart I will see how the adapter and shaft mate. If it is using a key then I will repair the shaft and get a proper coupler and call it good so I can get it back to work and down the road when I take the front end apart to rebuild it, try to match the factory setup.

Thanks,
Don

Unlikely you'd find a pump to match the factory setup. I ended up getting a mount and pump from Surplus Center. Can't remember what I did for a coupling but I didn't have to remove the shaft from the front pulley.

Got it apart. Pulley is 3/12" in dia. and just over 1" thick. It has a 4 bolt pattern about 2 7/8" across and 2" to the next adjacent hole. Holes are 7/8" and looks like a 7/8" keyed shaft.

I am going to guess this is a Ford part. Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks.
Don

After a lot of digging, I can repair it at a shop for about $300, buy a pulley, front pump adapter, shaft and coupling(as my pump has a 1" shaft) for about $400 or weld a key into the existing hub, remove the spun key and put it back together Under $10 and an extra hour of my time.

Going with the last option.
