MF 135 Steering

I had a customer call me the other day asking if I could find him a manual steering sector for his 135. He said it was in poor shape, had been welded on and farmerized and wasn't worth trying to repair. He said the tractor was a 1971 or 72 and had an 8 speed transmission, not a six and he was sure the sector was different. I have been on the AGCO parts book site, have called a couple of salvage yards and can't get a straight answer.Does anyone out there know; is the sector for and 6 and 8 speed different? Thanks in advance.

They both use the same steering box (I've swapped some of them around). Rebuilding the old box, costs as much as buying a new/reman box minus the labor for rebuilding the old box.

I have two 135s, a US model without power steering, and a Great Britain with power steering. A PTfarmer mentioned the six and eight speed box are the same. The GB model shows both manual and power steering tractors use the same gearbox, as the front axle has steering cylinders on it. The US tractors used two different boxes as the power steering cylinder is on the box/rack assembly.

Thanks, to both of you. I had pretty much made up my mind they were the same, but having a little trouble convincing the owner. I got a price of $650.00 for a used one. He says to keep looking.

You can find them new for not much more, or less than that (ebay). The new ones are from India made by TAFE (tractor and farm equipment) they still make the 35, and 200 series MF tractors brand new in India under the TAFE name. Only problem with the new boxes is that you can't adjust the free play out of the steering once it wears. You can get all new internal parts for the original steering box, the last one my brother rebuilt he spent around $600 for all the parts.
