1105 question

everybody I talk to up here says the 1105 has a weak back end. So is it the parts I just changed or is there something eles I should watch out for???

I was always told the ones with the red centers in
the wheels had a lighter casting in the rear end by
the ring gear. Which were later beefed up. The
silver ones where built heaver from the start.I had
all silver ones and never had a problem. I pulled
manure tankers and a 6-16 plow with out any
problems. We have clay soil here. And all my
tractors were used hard.

I've always been told that the rearends in this series of tractors are all identical. If you load it up with duals, weights and fluid in the tires and then lug an oversized implement at slow speeds you will wear it out. If you run it at the weights recommended by Massey in the manual, it will last forever.

Massey used the same trans/rearend in the 1100, 1130,1150,1105,1135,1155. It was stong enough for the 1100&1105, OK for the 1130&1135 and had to watch them in the 1150&1155. In our area SWMN we would have problems spinning the ring gear on the planitaries (spelling) if the tractor did a lot of plowing or turning under heavy load with the assistance of the brakes. Also the stub shaft in the rear end would flake sometimes in all models and could swap them from side to side. My 1155's shafts started to flake at 1200 hrs, swapped them and still running at 7000+ hours. The tractor went to light duty at around 2500 hrs. Best way to check the condition of the rearend is drop the pan under the charge pump and look for flakes or filings. Take Care Merle

MF 1100-1130 parts book shows 1100 had narrower planetary gears in axles than 1130 and 1150 had. Not sure about 05 models, dad has 1100 with over 7000 hours, still running fine.

I was told that the rear end was improved in the later ones and other than checking serial#"s that you could tell the heavier ones by the 8 bolt front hub instead of 6.not sure if that was the 1105 or the 1135.

if the 1105 & 1155 had the same rears a 1105 should hold up ok because i worked for a man that a stock 1155 145 hp on the dyno only problem he had was a brake to shear the splines out of the disc and a diff. spider gear broke, then he bought a 24 ft disc which was a little to much, added a turbo set the fuel to match cranked out 175 hp would spin like a car if you loaded it to much, coarse he was only running ballast in the inner duals outers only had air,ran for several years with no trouble then the left axle housing developed about a 3 inch crack right above the planateries, they actually welded the crack shut and run it a couple years more then sold it never did tear into it to see what split the housing
