I'm getting a little gear whine out of the transmission. I suspect it is normal for a 1961 tractor... However, I was wondering if anybody recommends the Lucas additives and which one do I use? The one for hydraulics?

If your tractor has the transmission and hydraulics as two seperate units I would use Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer in trans. If the trans.and hydraulic system use the same oil I would use Lucas Hydraulic oil. I have used both with no problems. I had several miner gasket leaks that have stopped leaking. If Your transmission noise is from normal wear Lucas may quite it down some.

I have used lucas oil stablizer in the sump of my TO-35 and it helped my pump,
pump was making a noise lifting the plow when tractor hyd oil was hot from plowing.

I think lucas oil stablizer is a good product.
quieten the tappet noise on a chevy 350 truck motor,
I always used it in my tractor motor until i changed to shell rotella 15w40 diesel oil.
that oil is a bit thicker so it not needed.

Lucas makes a Hydraulic Oil booster and Stop leak. I think a lot of the Lucas stuff is very similar but the amount of additives may vary between products.
