Looking for big deans draft control spring test.

tomorrow i'm hoping to fit my new temperature gauge to my 65.

time permitting i may also take a look at my non functioning 3 point linkage. it was working and stopped for no reason but occasionally works a bit.

i've been reading through the archives here and alot of people have had simaler problems to which big dean often correctly suggested a loose master/draft control spring.
he posted links to a drawing showing how to test the spring using chains attached to the top link pin.

unfortunately any links that i can find are now out of use. does anyone on here still have this drawing?
also i read alot about his troubleshooting cds. does anyone know if they can still be got?

as usual all information is appreciated so thanks in advance.

Hi Alan,
If there is play in the control spring assembly it will stop the 3-pt lifting with an implement attached. But it won't stop it working if nothing is attached.
Intermittent operation may be down to the control valve in the pump sticking occasionally.
Start by draining the oil level down to the bottom bolt on the RH side cover and remove the cover. Inside you will see the pump lever coming upwards and two levers coming down and meeting it. Operate the position control on the quadrant. The vertical levers and pump lever must instantly follow any command from the quadrant lever. If there is a delay or the pump lever remains in position that would indicate a control valve problem likely to be rust.
If you move the quadrant lever and the vertical levers do not respond then the problem is likely to be in the hydraulic cover. Picture of layout attached.

thanks for the reply david.

bit of history on this tractor. i lay outside for 25 year with a hole in the old metal tipping pipe. hence the back end got filled with water.
i had the tractor restored last year and the man that done it had checked the pump and it was working ok. i had auxillary valves fitted to the tractor also for my hydraulic link box.
the lift was working when i collected it from being restored but it to once i got it home i couldn't get to work at all. it works occasionally now but won't lift more than about two inches. this is with nothing attached. i haven't had anything attached to it since i got it home as it won't raise high enough to meet with the link up points on my box

i had the side cover off alredy and the levers are moving ok. i moved the control lever by hand also but it didn't make the lift rise at all.
i've also taken off the diverter switch for the auxillary hydraulics under the front of the seat and ran the tractor. the stand pipe was only trickling oil up from it.

Hi Alan,
The pump lever must be leaning forward to be in the lifting position. Check again to make sure its going as far forward as it can.If you are getting reduced flow from the stack pipe then oil may not be getting into the pump. The filter can be removed through the left hand side cover. Try it briefly without the filter. When you had the aux hydraulics fitted are you referring to the full kit including the internal pump? If so this may complicate filter removal. Check also the condition of the O rings and PTFE washers on the stack pipe.
