The numbers on the left side of the block front to back are. 5 01042 1402529 These numbers are all on the bottom. I do know its a big block. Would be nice to know the year and location of the motor.

Thanks.

If it"s a big block, the casting date will be cast into the side of the block. Casting date doesn"t mean it was in that year of car- for example, a 10-69 date block would probably be in a 1970 car. If it"s a tall deck (413-426-440) the engine size will be stamped into a flat pad just ahead of the intake manifold between the heads. If it"s a low deck (350-361-383-400) the engine size will be stamped in the deck surface just ahead of the right head.

Its a flathead 6 cyl its a 265. I bought this engine in 3 boxes all in pieces. I have know idea what it came out of. I rebuilt the engine and yesterday when I put water in it I had a leak up front on top of the block. I noticed there was a very small portion of a water jacket showing. It almost looks like I need a different head and head gasket. Im just needing info on this engine so I can look for the right parts. Im using this engine to repower my super 101.

thats better, these engines were in massey hassis super 92 combine.
minnie moline 4292 combine.
cockshutt 542 combine.

There is a raised pad on the left side of the engine near the front and top of the block. The stamped number there will identify the engine. Take a look at the web link below that shows all of the Chrysler flathead codes. If you scroll toward the bottom they are separated by Dodge truck, Dodge car, Chrysler, DeSoto, and Industrial engines.

There are no numbers on the pad its blank. There are 4 or 5 bosses along the top of the block that have the letter C stamped into them.
