How hot should your trans fluid get, this is for a 205 indus

Got a torque converter instant reverse 205 industrial and just put a new trans pump in and new fluid, NAPA Universal Tractor Fluid, Permatrans III equiv. (M-1129 I think the number stated), I'm sure I got enough fluid in.

When varying the load with a loader and box scaper attached, today in 86 F degree Califormia heat, the trans fluid went to 185...I didn't run it any longer to see if it would stay at 185, since I thought that may be getting in the high zone, but I really don't know.

Anyone know?

I have a 40 industrial. The ops manual states "Torque Converter Oil Temperature Gauge - Normal operating temperature is 200 degrees F. Operating in too high a gear can cause overheating."

I'm also flogging in the hot Ca. sun. Don't remember the numbers but the gauge was in the middle of the "normal" range the other day.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, Paul, that does help...I found some sources online last night, but pertaining to automatic transmissions, they said converter-out temp is 150 warm up, 175-200/220-ish is normal, 275 is max hot for short durattion, 300 is destructive.

I thought the temp should be the same as water, 180 is OK, 190-200 getting too hot, but it appears not for trans, 190-200 even 220 is normal...the UTF (NAPA) brand I use has viscocity ratings at 100 and 210, so I'mm assuming the 100 is cold and the 210 is normal hot temp.

Thanks again for the information...I'll keep an eye on the temp and see where she runs.
