how do you know if you have a shuttle transmission on a mf20 some people have told me that this is a option. also some also have told me that the mf20 could either have a 6speed or 12 speed trans. is any of this true?

According to my book, the MF20 came with an 8 speed manual transmission or a 6 speed manual shuttle transmission. UK models(only) were available with 12 speed multi-power. If you have manual shuttle, there will be a forward/neutral/reverse lever to the left of the steering wheel. I think the pto will run backwards in reverse on a shuttle model as well. This could cause severe damage if you forgot and backed up with something running on the pto. You have to come to a full stop when using the manual shuttle or it will grind. If you have good brakes, it's a nice transmission for loader work. Dave

If you have a dash mounted lever for forward and reverse and your regular gear shift has no reverse, you have shuttle shift.

I have a mf20,the pto does not run in reverse direction when backing up. You do however have to come to a complete stop to change the shuttle shift as it will grind. It also helps if you push the clutch all the way down as this stops all the moving parts (when not mowing).
