Oil or Grease in Steering Box

135 guy

The tractor is a 1973 U.S version MF-135 with power steering. The seals on the arms that the steering tie rods attach to were leaking. I took it apart to replace them and the cavity where the gears mesh had transmission type oil in it. In the I&T manual it says to fill it with 2 pints of grease. In the manual I bought from the dealer it says to add 90 wt transmission oil. Which is correct? I don"t know if the new procedure is to use grease instead of oil or if I should put back oil which is what was in there originally.

No direct experience with 135 but on 35, 50, etc., originally it called for 90 wt., and that is still good if not leaking. Many people have trouble with leaks and have gone to corn head grease.
