Front tire falling off 1/16

Front tire keeps popping off a 1/16 tractor. This is one my 6 year old plays with. It seems like it catches when you put it on but it doesn't take long to come back off. Any ideas how to keep it on? Maybe see if I can squeeze the rim with needle nose and pinch the little ring?

Since this is a "played with" "tractor", I would have already drilled and tapped a small hole in the end of the spindle and retained the wheel with a screw and washer.

A screw would work but be careful that cheap pot
metal is easy to break

The problem is it has diecast metal rims. Hours of carpet farming makes the hole in the rim larger till it slides off the spindle. The plastic rim toys don't have as much trouble with this problem. I have fixed several by drilling and taping a hole for 4-40 screw and a backing plate washer for an 1/8 "pop rivet". They spindle is not pot metal. They are aluminum. I've never broke one yet.

My 1586 that I literally ran the wheels off of when I was a kid had the front wheel fall off. Dad went to one of his toolkits for work and got a tiny snap ring. 30 years later, the tractor sits on the shelf in my living room, and the snap ring is still on the front.

I played with that tractor so much that the whole front end is completely wore out, I like to joke that the front end being that wore out makes it more authentic as most real 66/86 series tractors I have been around have a bunch of slop in the front end as well.

Update- Around the time I was making this post my wife got tired of finding the tire laying around and threw it away. So I went online and found the closest replacement I could find. Slightly different style in that it has a plastic ring that holds it in place. The plastic was too stiff to initially put on but after letting it sit in almost boiling water for a couple minutes I was able to pop it on. So far it looks like it should work pretty well.
