2520 wiring harness diode

I've been having trouble with my 2520. The alt light wouldn't come on when I turned the
key on. A local JD mechanic tested and found that the diode in the wiring harness has no
continuity. I think it's supposed to be attached to the instrument panel support. I know
it's supposed to act as a checkvalve...only letting current go one direction.
My problem...the local JD dealer can't find it in his parts book.
Do anyone here know what the part number would be for that diode? Or do I need to go to
a salvage yard? Or call one of the wiring harness makers and get one from there?

Amy help is appreciated!

Thanks!

If the diode shows in the wiring diagrams but not in the parts catalog; it is likely a component built inside the wiring harness. The OEM replacement procedure in that case is to replace the harness with the diode in it. You can cut the harness apart and hunt to find it then replace it with a generic diode. Or discontinue the old wire, make a new wire with a diode in it, and run it alongside the harnesses from the indicator light to the alternator. If you can determine the harness the diode is in, you might get a new or salvage yard harness.

IF you can find the diode in the harness, a 1N5408 diode makes a good/HD replacement for such diodes.

GOOGLE will find you many sources for them and they are CHEAP.
