Late A head gasket

Putting the head back on today. I&T manual says to soak it in oil and let drain before installing. I have the FelPro gasket. Is the oil soak neccessary with modern gaskets?

No, just coat with a good layer of spray Copper Coat gasket sealer and it will be good to go.

That was for the old gaskets with asbestos in the center

I second the use of K-W copper coat spray; good coat both sides, especially narrow stripe outside of water jacket. Torque, warm up and retorque, set valves.. Sealed, good to go!!
