School me on a 45 or 46 Deere BR. I'm looking at a tractor that was restored 30 years ago and then apparently sat inside until it stuck. Very complete with no visible damage such as cracked block or radiator castings. 334XXX serial number, hand start. I can handle the easy stuff like tires but this will be my first two cylinder to get unstuck. Anything I need to be wary of? I assume engine internals are same as a regular row-crop B? Thanks

it should not be stuck to hard. i just got my ar going after sitting over 20 years it was stuck a bit. added mystery oil into the cyl's. let it sit a day. them come back and work on it. if no rain down the muffler its not bad . its the rain that requires a full tea1r down. as i say an engine is an engine dont matter what color.

Your BR is a very late '44 or a '45. The first serial # in BR/BO model year '45 was 334219.

The major engine internals were different than a regular rowcrop B.
JD Parts Catalog PC-676 covers unstyled Bs and all BO and BR tractors.

Way back in '69 I traded for a similar '45 JD BO. I removed spark plugs & filled cylinders with diesel. weeks later I inserted tool in flywheel hub that was use to rotate crankshaft when repairing engine & crankshaft turned. I blew diesel out of cylinders, installed sparkplugs, filed points & put gasoline in tank then towed & engine started operating.

The row crop B's got updated when styled, and I thought the Br's were updated at the same time. I guess it would depend on what row crop B you were comparing to...

The parts book is confusing, as all BR's are in the same book as unstyled B's. If comparing a 1937 B to a 37 BR, block, pistons, etc are the same, crank is different- likely a bit shorter to accomodate a narrower pulley. Same with a 45 B vs BR- block pistons etc interchangible.

JD BR/BO have a separate parts catalog than model B it's PC190
'45 BR/BO block is part# AB1450R while '45 B block is part # AB2729R
'45 BR/BO connecting rod is AB355R while '45 B rod is AB2717R
'45 BR/BO piston is AB3915R while '45 B piston is AB3917R

Interesting. I pulled my info from Deere's online website, which had a listing of Unstyled B, BR/BO. There were common parts for B below 60000 and Br/BO below 329000.

Remove the plugs and fill it up with your favorite penetrating lube. Let sett for a few days and then try getting the engine to roll back and forth. Make sure the cylinders are not filled with water first though.

PC190 is available online

Thanks all. Found the operators manual online and figuring out what all the levers do. We pick it up later this week. First thing we'll pull the plugs and run the camera into the cylinders to see what shape they are in. Wish me luck! I'll post some pics.

Coonie, you are correct. The later BR have same block and head as the 39/40 row crop B's. The early BR / BO/ BI has the unstyled row crop block and head. The two cranks are different than row crop models because of the narrow clutch pulley but have same stroke as the respective block and head.
