My friend has a 2640 tractor, about 70 pto hp, and the batteries are failing. It has 2 smaller 12 volt batteries, wouldn't 1 big (1000cca) battery start it just fine? He only uses it for his garden in warm weather. Thanks!

1 big battery will have half the connections of two smaller ones. Put in the biggest battery that will fit in the space and run the ground cable to the cast iron body, not the battery box. Mines been like that for years.

We replaced the 2 battery (parallel) system on our 2240 with a single GP31. Rerouted ground cable to engine block at the same time. Slightly less CCA than 2 batteries in parallel, but works fine in the warm weather. Did need to remove half the housing in front of steering wheel to install the one single battery (reinstalled fine).

1000CCA from one battery or 1400CCA from two batteries ?
For starting around here, it is the most CCA that can be stuffed into the battery compartment .
And yes, adding another ground cable from the battery (-) post(s) to one of the starter mounting bolts . This vastly improves the amount of voltage and current supplied to the starter motor .
