1944 D run timing

1944 model D with Edison Splitdorf CD mag. Its a hand
start tractor and I can roll it over and start it on the first
or second compression and tractor runs. But I checked
the timing with a timing light and it is still firing at TDC
while running. I think it should be 35 degrees BTDC? Any
ideas what is going on? Thanks

If the timing doesn't advance as the engine speeds up above a couple of hundred RPM's it would seem the impulse isn't ''dropping out''.

What would be a possible repair if its not dropping out?
Is it possible that the impulse dog is installed backwards
for the opposite rotation?

I have seen only a simple clean up and light lube of the impulse spring wind n trip assembly cure that. Centrifugal force over around 250 RPM should initiate the run timing. When low octane tractor or so called drip fuel was used 35 BTDC was used but with gasoline 25 BTDC might work better.
