2950/2955 Decent tractor?

I hope to be need something with 1000 RPM PTO to pull a 300 Husker picker. Several steps yet to be sorted out but I would like to identify a good tractor for this application and start looking.

The 55 series utility tractors were one of the best utility tractors built in that Era. I have a 1991 JD 2955, bought new. Replaced the water pump impeller in 7500 hours of use. Good cold weather starter, comfortable with factory cab, easy to operate and maintain. You can't go wrong if you find a good one.

I agree JD 50 & 55 series utility have a better service record than their predecessors. I personally don't like the master/slave clutch control system on utility tractors with SGB. I think tractors built in Waterloo have far superior, hyd system, clutch & electrical systems. I will recommend checking operation of hyd system on utility tractors with hyd oil at operating temperature. One drawback to JD utility tractors with the SGB is performance of AC system where I live & electrical system printed circuit board leave some things to be desired. Many yrs ago when I viewed wiring diagram in tech manual it reminded me of a "spider web"

A 2950/55 model is not a 'bad' tractor, BUT since you dont specify a budget GMC, and taking TX Jims comments in to consideration, you may be better off in the long run to look at a 4040, 4050, or 4055 which are Waterloo tractors of somewhat similar horsepower and have 1000 pto.

I have two 3055's which are the newer version of a 2955. Both are great and perfect machines. They're reliable and easy to work on and service. 359 engine is essentially bullet-proof. As always, check hours, service and quality of the tractor before you purchase.
