is it ok to coat the head gasket with copper sealant before installing??

just want some insurance on this old girl. bought new head bolts so i dont have to worry about those.

not a tractor we know much about. head went to the machine shop.

It is OK!! In fact, its a good idea.. Clean both head and block surfaces very good... Then I have use K-D copper coat spray.. Spray a even coat on each side of the head gasket... Do a even torque; Run engine to heat up and then retorque ....

Use it on all my stuff at home I plan to keep. Seems to work quite well. At work they were quite adamant not to use it but some of the caterpillar stuff would get enough hours to be rebuilt again fairly soon and I think most of it was they didnt want any extra mess. I spray it on away from the tractor and on a hook and carry it over once its dryed up a little. The old timers would talk about using a silver spray paint on 2 cylinders I suppose the idea is about the same although nowadays I think that thin lead looking coating that comes on them is sufficient as long as theres not a defect on the gasket or the head gets slid any when putting it down.
