John Deere A power trol

I m looking to use my A to run haybine. Problem is it will not lift the haybine. I have quick couplers on right hand side. It will lift a plow and bush hog just fine. I know these tractors had 45 loaders on them and mounted corn pickers. These tractors lifted these implements. What do I need to do to get it to lift a 7 foot haybine

You may need to learn to distinguish between low pressure hydraulics and high pressure ones.

Two cylinder JDs had a low pressure hydraulic system compared to modern ones. Get an old low pressure JD cylinder and put it on and it will probably work fine then. The pistons and cylinders in low pressure hydraulic cylinders have larger surface area to work on than those of high pressure cylinders.

First thing is what type-make of haybine. Some only lift the header and
other makes lift the complete machine. If the type that lifts the complete
machine you will need at least a 4 inch diameter cylinder, header only a
standard B cylinder of 2.5 inches will lift lift header only. I think but
cannot confirm but all John Deere and Gehl machines lift the complete
machine and Heston-Case and New Holland only lifted the header. I do know
when we bought ours back in the late 70;s before fealer had it ready they
brought out a lift complete machine out for us to use and out tractors
would not lift it enought to even get the stop released to lower machine
to operating position. The one we had bought only lifted the header and no
problem at all. Same cylinder. Just design of mashchine. So I think that
is your problem. Machine designed for newer hydrolic systems.

Did not know there was a diiference between low pressure and high pressure hydraulics. I learned something new today. That's awesome! Great information! now to find an old John Deere cylinder. Thanks a bunch!

When I got my 1207 I tried that. The cylinder extended till it tried to lift, then nothing. When I got an OP manual it required 1400psi minimum.
Powertrols were only around 900psi.

Any TSC cylinder will work, Just used the Deere cylinder for information as
that is what I had. The big question is what make and model machine you want
to lift. That will tell if the hydrolic has enough capacity to do what you
need

That should be just a header lift machine and any farm store 3 inch cylinder
should do the job.

The larger the bore of the cylinder the more it will lift,,lower pressure needs a bigger bore,, the old Deere cylinders were low pressure,, and you can not use them on a high pressure system,,, they will crack open like dropping an egg,, they are not cast for high pressure,,over 1500 psi..most modern tractors (after 1960) have 2250 psi

You don't need an old Deere cylinder, just one with a larger bore- more surface area. Look for one with a 3.5 or 4 inch bore. Also does the mower conditioner have lift assist springs? If so, tighten them.
